He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Gerald was a graduate of Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward, Nebraska and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. Ordained into the holy ministry in 1957, he touched the lives of many people as a pastor of Lutheran congregations in Edinburg and Rochester, Ill. and Grand Island, Neb.

From 1970 to 1995 he served as senior pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria.

While serving at Trinity in Peoria, he established the Stephen Ministry program, the WATCH program, premarital workshops, marriage enrichment workshops, as well as the staff positions of Cantor and Director of Christian Education.

He served the church at-large as a member of the Concordia School Board, the Lutheran Hillside Village Board, and the Central Illinois Board of directors. He was certified as a pastoral counselor in May 1994 by the Illinois Pastoral Institute.

In addition to preaching in many area churches after retirement, he served in the area of family ministry at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria for one year, and as a vacancy pastor at both Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Green Valley.

His passion for helping marriages and families was evident in his continued ministry of pre-marital and marriage enrichment workshops and the “Five for the Family” program he developed. These ministries were used by a number of congregations in the Peoria and St. Louis areas.

For the past eight years he served as a part-time chaplain at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. Until recently, he continued serving the ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria by visiting home-bound members.
