PEORIA- George Herbert Brehmer, 96, of Snyder Village in Metamora formally of Peoria died at 12:02 p.m. Thurs. March 4, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Sept. 4, 1913 in Wittenberg, WI a son of Christ A. and Hannah Schmidt Brehmer, he married Ione Bertram on Aug. 7, 1935 in Clintonville, WI. She preceded him in death in Nov. of 2002 in Metamora.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Mary Meyer, two brothers, and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Rex (Roberta) Brehmer of Discovery Bay, CA; two daughters, Lyn (Dennis Whittler) Johnston and Kay (James Durbin) Chiaravalle both of San Diego, CA; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
George worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 30 years and retired in 1971. He was an active member, for many years, at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria and the Caterpillar Retiree's Club.
George and his wife, Ione, moved to Snyder Village in 2000 where George was an avid bridge player and a loyal Cardinal baseball fan.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Mon. March 8, 2010 at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
