PEORIA – Bettie Lou Rigg, 89, of Peoria, went to be forever with the Lord at 1:10 p.m., July 4, 2010. She battled a serious stroke for 6 weeks before peacefully passing away with family present at Methodist Medical Center.
Bettie Lou was born June 10, 1921 the only child of Wylie and Faye Stableton. She was born and raised in Peoria graduating from Peoria High and Bradley University. Like so many of her friends she remained in Peoria after World War II, married and started her own family.
She had one devoted son, William Brent (Dawn) Triebel of Flagler Beach, Florida and two loving grandchildren, William Cort Triebel and Brooke Megan Ferrara both of Edgewater, Florida. She dearly loved her grand kids and was closely involved with their early upbringing instilling in them solid values and strong principles that were the backbone of her generation.
Bettie was a homemaker who cared much for the community. Through the years she was a member of various clubs and volunteer organizations, including the Junior League, P.E.O., and Proctor Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was a member of First Federated Church.
Bettie loved to play golf, bridge, and travel. She belonged to Country Club of Peoria for over 50 years and regularly played golf until her early 80's. She played bridge 4 to 5 times a week with friends she knew and had socialized with for decades. She wintered in Florida for over 30 years but always returned to Peoria stating she would miss her friends too much to ever reside permanently anywhere else. For the last 11 years mom traveled extensively with her companion and best friend, Steve Ferri, a time when she was most happy and content.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010 at First Federated Church in Peoria. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010 also at her church. Memorials may be made to First Federated Church Youth Group.
