PEORIA—Robert L. "Dax" Daxenbichler, 89, of Peoria, passed away on February 1, 2017 at Farmington Country Manor in Farmington.

Robert was born August 6, 1927, in Peoria, to Felix W. and Irma C. Koeppel Daxenbichler. He married Mary L. Knuth-Guinnee on September 14, 1958 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Daxenbichler of Peoria; one sister, Phyllis Jones of East Peoria; his children, William (Cindy) Daxenbichler of Bloomington, Daniel (Kate) Daxenbichler of Rushville, Charon (Stephen) Smith of Washington, Michael (Lynda) Guinnee of Galva; Deborah (Robert Daugherty) Simkins of Peoria; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Daxenbichler and one sister, Darlene Kraft.

Robert was a WW II Navy Veteran. He formerly served as a Post Commander for Metamora American Legion Post 89 and was a lifetime member of Peoria American Legion Post 2.

He worked for Interstate Brands Bakery 41 years retiring in 1990. In addition to spending time with family, Dax enjoyed bowling, golf and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.


He was of the catholic faith.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Farmington Country Manor and the Vitas Hospice for the loving care he received from them. We are forever grateful.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2017 at The Wilton Mortuary with the Rev. Howard Love officiating. Cremation rites were accorded and burial of ashes will be at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to FCM Honor Flight for Veterans. Checks are to be made payable to the Bank of Farmington, 16 N. Main, Farmington, IL 61531.
