METAMORA—Geraldine Ann DeFreitas, 85 of Metamora, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 11:13 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born November 9, 1931 in Paxton, IL, a daughter of William and Blanche Manners Schmitt, Geraldine married Louis Gordon DeFreitas July 7, 1959 in Peoria. He survives.

A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, Geraldine is also survived by one son, Dave (Amy) DeFreitas of Germantown Hills; one grandson, Mathew (his fiance, Brandyce Gordon) DeFreitas of Washington; one granddaughter, Emma DeFreitas of Germantown Hills; one sister, Marilyn Kelley of Nashua, NH; three nephews; two nieces and her sister-in-law, Doris Schmitt of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, William Gerald "Bud" Schmitt.

She worked at International Color and later as a secretary for Equitable Insurance.
Geraldine graduated from Minier High School in 1949 where she was honored as a Daughters of the American Revolution award recipient, Brown Business School in 1951 and attended Bradley University.

She served as an election judge for 25 years, was active in many bowling leagues, participated as a PTA member, volunteered at the Woodrow Wilson grade school, was a room Mother for many years while her son was in grade school, and was an avid reader.

Geraldine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at The Wilton Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
