Robert Paul  Michael: 2016 2016
PEORIA—Robert Paul Michael, 73, of Peoria, joined Jesus and heaven through his salvation and healing from physical death on May 13, 2017 at 3:06 p.m. at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

Robert was born September 6, 1943 in Peoria to Fred C. and Audrey K. Wagenaar Schaer. After Fred passed away in 1949, Audrey remarried and Robert and his brother, Fred were adopted by Gerald Michael.

Gerald was in the US Air Force and they traveled to and lived in many places as he and his brother grew up. They lived in Illinois, Idaho, Delaware and Tennessee in the US as well as in Africa and Germany.

Robert married Darlene A (Sester) in June 1966 and later married Barbara (Shirran) Michael in August 1990. Both survive.

Surviving is one daughter, Michelle M. (Jeff) Byrd of Tremont; one son, Rev. Brian T. (Sara) Michael of Mapleton; six grandchildren, Eric and Sara Byrd, Samantha, Ella, Noah and Arianna Michael; One great-grandson, Jaiden Stork; one brother, Fred R. (Julia) Michael of Morton IL.

He was preceded in death by father, adoptive father, and mother.

He was a Viet Nam War Army veteran, serving from 1961-64. He was stationed at Fort Leornard, Mo for boot camp and then served his time as a registrar in Chicago, Il.

Robert was employed by Caterpillar Inc for 33 years retiring as an inspector from 1965 to August 1, 1998.

Robert was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and ecstatic to see his team win the World Series in November 2016. He enjoyed working and planting in his yard, loved dogs all his life, enjoyed most all sports and of course, he loved all of his grandchildren.

He was a member of Peoria Heights Congregational Church in Peoria Heights.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at The Wilton Mortuary with, his son, the Reverend Brian T. Michael officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the services on Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by the US Army and American Legion Post #2.

Memorials may be made his church, Peoria Heights Congregational Church or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
