PEORIA —Alvis B. Creel, 85, of Peoria , passed away at 1:40 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Heartland of Peoria.

Born April 5, 1924 in Blytheville , Arkansas , a son of Bevie Q. and Margie E. Mitchell Creel, he married Beatrice I. Gaskin August 14, 1944 in Blytheville , Arkansas . She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Diana (Charles E.) Donaldson of Minier; three sons, Jerry F. (Charlene) Creel of Forest Grove, Oregon, Danny R. (Charlotte) Creel of Peoria, David L. (Barbara) Creel of Morton; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne (Lloyd) Schoolfield of Mena, Arkansas and Verselee (Newton) Wyatt of Marshall, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank Creel and Robert Rea.

Alvis worked for LaTourneau Westinghouse 11 years. He then worked for Lippsett Steel 7 years, retiring as a train engineer in 1968.

Alvis was a loving husband, father and grandfather. An avid fisherman, he loved playing pool and working on cars.

He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church .

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 at The Wilton Mortuary. Rev. Richard Springsteen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services on Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church or the Donor's Choice.
