PEORIA – Russell L. Bishop, 88, of Peoria, died at 8:44 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center.

He was born April 8, 1921 in Peoria to Charles Melvin and Irene H. Callahan Bishop. He married Helene Betty Mitzelfelt on July 31, 1950 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Sharon (Bill) Bracken of Brimfield, Janet (Michael) Fairfield of Scottsdale, Arizona; his grandchildren, B. J. Bracken of Brimfield, Buster Bracken of Peoria, Private First Class Alex Taus, United States Army, of Scottsdale, Arizona, currently serving his nation in Iraq; his great-granddaughter, Kennedy Rutherford of Brimfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He was a World War II United States Army veteran serving in Europe with the 14th Armored Division Liberators.

He worked as a conveyor operator for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1981, was a member of the American Legion and the 14th Armored Division Association.

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria, with services to follow at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Howard Love will officiate.

Burial, with military honors, will be 9:00 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
