PEORIA – Dorothy M. Newtson, 87, of Peoria, died at 8:24 a.m., Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Bel-Wood Nursing Home.

She was born November 6, 1921 in Logan County to Walter and Mae Gilkerson Snyder. She married Roy M. Newtson on April 17, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1963 in Peoria.

Also preceding her in death are one son, Ronald Wayne Newston; two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are her children, Glenadine (Jim) Rathbun of Bartonville, Robert (Doris) Newston and Ricky (Gail) Newston both of Peoria; her grandchildren, Jimmy Rathbun of Mesa, Arizona, Jodi Rathbun of Bartonville, Kristine (Mark) Diekhoff of Peoria, Maj. Anthony J. Newtson of Maui, Hawaii, Chris (Mindy) Van Naken of Morton, Christopher (Candace) Newtson of Peoria, Sarah (Josh) Kiem of Eureka, Rachel (Richard) Reeb of Germantown Hills, Derrick Merrick of Bartonville, Alysha (Jason) Wood of Peoria, Tiffany Newtson of Champaign; her great-grandchildren, Kala, Dillon, Ella, Kayleigh, Zac, McKenzy, Karlee, Alexis, Vance, Geoffrey and Joshua; two brothers, Raymond (Eileen) Snyder of Washington, Howard “Bud” Snyder of New Holland, Illinois:one sister, Catherine (Francis) Hitchell of Peoria and many nieces and nephews.

She worked as a machinist, making tank tracks for Caterpillar during World War II, was a mother and home maker, and retired as a catalog sales clerk for Montgomery Ward in 1985.

She attended Mt. Olive Missionary Church.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Shawn Lindsay will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2009, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
