WASHINGTON- Douglas Dale Rathbun, 57, of Washington, passed away on Tues. Nov. 17, 2009, at Communities of Maple Lawn in Euerka. He was surrounded by family during his journey to a better place.

Doug was born Feb. 20, 1952 in Pontiac, a son of Cecil Dale and Wanda Fern Ehrhardt Rathbun. He first married Lori Mae Hyten. They later divorced. Doug then married Janice Catherine Eckert on Fri. Aug. 13, 2004 in Groveland. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Danielle K. Rathbun of Bloomington; his stepchildren, Cindy Rich Penrose, Richard Rich , Bobby Eckert all of Washington; his brother, John Richard “Dick” (Nancy) Jones of El Paso; his sisters, Doris (Wayne) Eymann of Chenoa, Jo Ann (Gene) Smith of Peoria, Robbie (John, deceased) Byrd of El Paso, and Debbie (Keith) McClure of Carlock; his nephews, Richie (Brandie), JT (Holly), Toby (Piper), Rodd (Cindy) and BJ (Lenise); his nieces, Josey (Dillon), Tiffani (Ben), Kelli, and Traci; one step niece Brynn; and three step grandchildren. Doug was made a Great Uncle 16 times.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Boulware.

He was raised and attended all years of school in El Paso where he graduated in 1970.

Doug is a graduate of Penn State University where he earned a degree in Agronomy/Horticulture.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Being stationed on an aircraft carrier he saw a lot of the world.

Doug was employed at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Washington, where he was superintendent for over 30 years.

He will be missed by his and Janice’s two loving Dachshunds, Milton and Annie, who are well known at the golf course.

Doug enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, and bowling. He was an avid sports fan. He later simply enjoyed being a homeowner and relaxing.

Doug touched many lives during his years through golfers and employees, especially the employee he married! He was a devoted husband, father, and employee.

Cremation rites will be accorded. The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
