East Peoria – C. Wendell Cassady, 97, of East Peoria died at Heartland at Riverview in East Peoria on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009.
Born Jan. 10, 1912 in Unionville, Mo., the son of Roy and Vertie Cassady, he married Floy L. Knight on June 26, 1936. She preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1968.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Saluto in 1998 and one sister, Roxie Crooks.
Surviving are two grandsons, Michael (Karen) Saluto of Temple, Tex. and Matthew (Sheri) Saluto of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and give great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cassady received his bachelor of arts degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. and his master of arts from Bradley University in Peoria. He also attended San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif. and the University of Vermont in Burlington.
He spent 42 years in the field of education and had taught for many years in Missouri. He last taught for 17 years at East Peoria High School, in East Peoria, retiring in 1972.
He participated in many activities, especially farming.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2009, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Howard Love will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the services. Burial will be in Fon Du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria.
