PEORIA—Ruth E. “Poody” Lamoureaux, 85, of Peoria, passed away at 2:03 a.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011 at her residence.

Born April 14, 1925 in Ames, Iowa, a daughter of Gilmour B. and Edith L. Craig MacDonald, Ruth married Robert J. Lamoureaux March 20, 1946 in Ames, Iowa. Robert preceded her in death on May 30, 2004 in Peoria.

Surviving are three daughters, Susan C. (Dennis) Gathmann of Mattoon, Illinois, Claudia R. (John) Tegtmeier of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, Karen L. Short of Hartland, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Ruth graduated from Ames High School and attended Iowa State University where she met and married Bob. She was active with Girl Scouts, church activities (choir, Deacons, Mothers’ Club, and other church volunteering), and an active member of P.E.O.

She was an avid reader and Jazz enthusiast and belonged to several bridge and supper clubs. She had a thirst for knowledge that included courses at ILR at Bradley University and Elderhostels. Poody and Bob traveled extensively abroad and in the U.S. Their motorhome adventures were legendary.

She was loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Besides being a loyal friend, she was a devoted mother and grandmother who instilled a true sense of adventure and love of learning in her children and grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of First Federated Church where memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church on Friday. The Wilton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites were accorded and burial of ashes will be in the church columbarium.
