Daniel Albert Messerli, age 91, of Peoria, passed away and went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at UnityPoint Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Daniel was born on June 6, 1925 on a dairy farm near Gibbon, Minnesota. His parents were Freidrich Messerli from Rugesburg, Switzerland and Hannah (Heiniger) Messerli from Sabetha, Kansas. He married Miriam Ruth Endress on February 9, 1947. They were married seventy years.

Surviving are his wife and six daughters, Linda Wales of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Diana Emerick of Peoria, IL, Brenda Block of Morton, IL, Debra (William) Hart of Monmouth, IL, Ronda (Jason) Patterson of Peoria, IL and Kayla (Clifford) Behm of Peoria, IL. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings, Samuel Messerli (died at birth), Marie Messerli, Emma Martin, Cornelius Messerli, Margaret Larson, Lillian Fenske, Elizabeth Patterson, Howard Messerli and Roy Messerli.

Daniel served as a Seaman First Class in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 on a landing ship in the South Pacific. He worked delivering ice for the Pacific Service Company. Later he worked for Caterpillar and then Keystone. He worked as a sheet metal worker for Sheet Metal Workers International Local 1. He retired in 1988 with 20 years of service. He also farmed his 20 acre homestead and owned several rental properties. He designed and built the home on those acres on Charter Oak Lane with the help of his wife and children. He volunteered for South Side Mission. He was member of the Apostolic Christian Church for over sixty years and he did all of the audio recordings for the church services and drove the church bus. He drove the bus for the Apostolic Christian Skylines nursing home as well. He was also involved in prison ministries. His favorite pastime was reading the Bible. He was known for his sense of humor. He loved his family and worked hard to provide for their every need. He would say "schalf gut and ich liebe dich" which means "Sleep good and I love you" in German.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 10am at the Apostolic Christian Church, 3420 N. Sheridan Road in Peoria. The church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 9am to 9:45am at the church. He will be laid to rest at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
